web design - accessibility
Making Your Website Accessible to People with Disabilites
A website can be built to
accommodate visually impaired
persons. Although doing so strictly, presents problems with some layouts
currently, it can be done with good effect as is the case with the
SweetOccasions
website. This was designed to be
text reader friendly.
A text reader is a kind of audio web browser for the visually impaired.
On this site font sizes can be customized for a
better
reading experience without compromising layout. This site is also
a good example of what can be done to make a site viewable on smaller screens
like PDAs for example.
A site needs to be
easy to navigate. You'll notice
how on this site a variety of navigation systems are displayed. For instance,
to the left is the standard navigation menu, above and to the right are
tabular navigation buttons to the main sections. Have a look at
Ceespray
on Owen for another example. You need to show your visitors where they
are now and where they can go next, this is what makes your site more accessible.
We are very conscious of site accessibility and take great care to provide
a
pleasant viewing experience for all our visitors.
